Rolex Grand Slam of show jumping

An arduous test

It is the greatest challenge in the sport. Prestigious. Demanding. Famously difficult to attain. Since 2013, the world’s finest riders have been vying to win the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping. It is a feat that rewards the outstanding rider who wins, consecutively, the Grand Prix at three of the four Majors. Scott Brash is the only person ever to have accomplished the hat-trick, across 2014 and 2015.

Winning the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping was an incredible moment in my career. I can hardly describe my feelings and emotions when I held the trophy in my hands.

A four-fold trial

The Dutch Masters, the CHIO Aachen, the CSIO Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament and the CHI Geneva. These historic fixtures on the international calendar make up the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping. The challenge is always the same: to triumph over the world’s finest. The result is always unexpected.

I am really looking forward to returning to The Dutch Masters in March. Rolex has created something that everybody looks up to, and all the best riders in the world plan their season around the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping

The opening event

The Dutch Masters

Held for the first time in 1967 in the medieval town of ’s-Hertogenbosch, The Dutch Masters combines the best of show jumping with the essence of dressage. Considered the primary equestrian competition in the Netherlands and classed as one of the elite events on the international equestrian indoor circuit, it attracts the best horses and riders in the world. As well as show jumping competitions – including the Rolex Grand Prix, the year’s first Major – other events are held that count towards the FEI Dressage World Cup™. Rolex has been Main Sponsor of The Dutch Masters and Title Sponsor of its Grand Prix since 2014.

It’s the biggest competition of the year, it’s part of history… It’s like playing a Champions League final in Liverpool. It’s Aachen.

The temple of the discipline

CHIO Aachen
The temple of equestrianism

The white handkerchief ceremony that closes the CHIO Aachen each year is a unique moment of communion between the fans, the riders and their horses. At the revered Aachen Soers showground, some 360,000 spectators gather annually to witness this prestigious open-air competition, which comprises five disciplines – show jumping, dressage, eventing, four-in-hand driving and vaulting – and culminates in the Rolex Grand Prix. With every masterful jump, elegant piaffe and stunning athletic movement, Aachen stands as a beacon of equestrian tradition and excellence. Rolex has partnered this event since 1999.

CSIO Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament
The North American showpiece

Every year since 1976, the CSIO Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament in Calgary, Canada, has welcomed the world’s equestrian elite. Considered by enthusiasts to be North America’s premier show jumping competition, it attracts tens of thousands of spectators over five days in September. Rolex has been Partner of the event since 1989 and became Presenting Sponsor of the CPKC ‘International’ Grand Prix in 2014.

The creation of the Rolex Grand Slam has been highly beneficial to show jumping. Any rider who has taken part in a Major will tell you that the level of competition guarantees a spectacle like no other.

I was 16 the first time I rode at the CHI Geneva. I love the show, and the people there give it back a hundredfold. It is the nicest week of the year.
