Career momentum

Born in Binzwangen, Germany, Richard Vogel has become one of show jumping’s brightest stars.

His equestrian journey began at a young age, influenced by his family’s ties with the sport. At age 17, Vogel started a riding apprenticeship and through dedication and perseverance, worked his way up from competing nationally to contesting international show jumping events, entering the rankings in 2020. That same year, he was selected for the Young Riders Academy, which assists in the training and education of aspiring show jumping talents, preparing them for professional careers in the sport. Vogel’s breakthrough came in 2022 when he won the CSI5* World Cup Grand Prix of Stuttgart – an event he claimed for the second time two years later. From there, he has gone from strength to strength, claiming impressive victories along the way.

In 2023, Vogel won the CSI5* Rolex Grand Prix of Wellington and CSI5* Grand Prix of Monterrey. He finished the year on a high note, claiming his first Major in the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping by winning the CHI5* Rolex Grand Prix at the CHI Geneva, a result that helped him break into the top 10 of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) rankings, where he has been a mainstay since April 2024. At the 2024 CHIO Aachen, Vogel emerged as the most successful rider in recent history, taking four wins and 10 podiums in total over the course of the week. As a result of being ranked World No. 7, he qualified for the 2024 Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final in Geneva, his first ride in this prestigious event.

Vogel’s consistent performances have earned him a place on the German national team, contributing to team victories at the FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ Final in 2023 and 2024. He made his Olympics debut at the Paris 2024 Games.

Vogel’s rapid rise has drawn comparisons with some of Germany’s legendary riders. As he continues to compete at the highest levels, he remains dedicated to his horses’ well-being and the pursuit of excellence, embodying the next generation of show jumping talent. Known for his exceptional horsemanship, calm demeanour under pressure and strategic course navigation, Vogel has formed particularly strong partnerships with horses such as Cydello and United Touch S.
