Joining equestrianism’s highest achievers
Richard Vogel is a German equestrian who has established himself as one of the world’s leading show jumpers with a competitive record that places him among the finest riders of his generation.
Richard Vogel is a top-ranked show jumper, multiple Major champion in the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping and the reigning European champion. His exceptional horsemanship, calm demeanour under pressure and strategic approach to competition make him one of the sport’s most complete competitors.
Born in Binzwangen, Germany, Richard Vogel has become a defining figure in show jumping.
His equestrian journey began at a young age, influenced by his family’s ties with the sport. His talent became evident early on, with impressive performances in youth competitions. At age 17 he started a riding apprenticeship and through dedication and perseverance began competing at national level, then internationally, entering the rankings in 2020. That same year, he was selected for the Young Riders Academy, which assists in the training and education of aspiring show jumping talents, preparing them for professional careers in the sport. Vogel’s breakthrough came in 2022 when he won the CSI5* World Cup Grand Prix of Stuttgart. He has since gone from strength to strength.
In 2023, Vogel won the CSI5* Rolex Grand Prix of Wellington and CSI5* Grand Prix of Monterrey. He finished that year on a high note, claiming his first Major in the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping by winning the Rolex Grand Prix at the CHI Geneva. That result helped him break into the top 10 of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) rankings, where he has been a mainstay since April 2024. Later that year, Vogel emerged as the most successful rider in the recent history of the CHIO Aachen, taking four wins and 10 podiums in total over the course of the week. In 2026, he claimed his second Major by winning the Rolex Grand Prix at The Dutch Masters in March, and did not wait long to add a third, with victory in the Rolex Grand Prix at the CHIO Aachen in May. He extended his impressive run of form by taking the honours in the Rolex Grand Prix at the Brussels Stephex Masters in late August, as a result of which he moved to World No. 1 in the FEI show jumping rankings for the first time – a just reward for a hugely successful season.
Vogel’s consistent performances have earned him a place on Germany’s national team, contributing to team victories at the FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ Final in 2023 and 2024. He made his Olympics debut at the Paris 2024 Games and claimed further high honours the following year when crowned European champion, winning the FEI Jumping European Championship with United Touch S, having taken team bronze two days earlier. In August 2026, he helped his country to the team jumping title at the FEI World Championships much to the delight of the home crowd in Aachen.
Richard Vogel became a Rolex Testimonee in 2024.
