Reversing wheels
Why red?
These are our reversing wheels. Patented in 1952, they coordinate to transmit energy to the mainspring, regardless of the direction in which the oscillating weight rotates.
Thanks to them, each movement of the Perpetual rotor feeds the power reserve. Playing a key role in the automatic winding process, these wheels are continuously put to work. Therefore, they need to be extremely tough. Their red colour, introduced in 1957, is a result of the surface treatment applied to the aluminium to ensure its robustness. This striking scarlet hue is now achieved through a different process. For watch enthusiasts, it is what sets apart these vital components.
