“Her Deepness” is the title Sylvia Earle has earned after a life spent underwater, sometimes in places where no human being has ever ventured before. The famous marine biologist has devoted her life to exploring and preserving the depths of the oceans.
In 1970, while working as a researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, she headed one of the Tektite II missions, a programme co-financed by NASA. Together with four other scientists and divers, all women, Earle spent 14 days in an underwater habitat in the US Virgin Islands at a depth of 15 metres.
To combat the rapid degradation of the world's oceans, Earle founded Mission Blue in 2009, the main aim of which is to develop a network of protected marine areas in all the world's seas. Rolex has supported this mission since 2014.Discover more on Rolex.org
