Mills rose to prominence through her remarkable performances at the Olympics and World Championships, where she has not only secured medals but also championed the importance of teamwork and mentorship in sailing. Her dedication to sailing and her commitment to sustainable development and gender inclusion have made her a prominent figure in the sailing community.

Sailing success and advocacy

Hailing from Wales, Hannah Mills began her sailing career at a young age and quickly rose to prominence on the international stage.

Her Olympic success, highlighted by gold medals in 2016 and 2020, established her as a formidable competitor. Her other impressive accolades also include multiple World and European Championship titles. Mills has made significant contributions to the sport through her role as tactician for the Great Britain crew in the Rolex SailGP Championship. In this position, she not only demonstrates her strategic prowess but also champions sustainable development as a SailGP ambassador.

In 2022, Mills, alongside Sir Ben Ainslie, launched the Athena Pathway programme, aimed at accelerating the development of female and youth sailors. This initiative includes a team that competed in the inaugural Women’s America’s Cup in 2024, with Mills at the helm, and has also assembled the British Youth Team to reclaim the Youth America’s Cup, which the Great Britain entry won in Bermuda in 2017. Mills’ commitment to the sport and the environment is further recognized by her being named Rolex World Sailor of the Year in 2016 and 2021. She became a Rolex Testimonee in 2022, having relied on a Rolex Yacht‑Master 37 throughout her career.
