Ophthalmologist and Rolex Awards Laureate Andrew Bastawrous founded Peek Vision to bring eye care to remote communities through smartphone technology and public health tools. With support from the Rolex Perpetual Planet Initiative, his social enterprise has enabled many millions of people to access eye tests that are readily available in the developed world.
Andrew Bastawrous’ Peek Vision has recently celebrated a major milestone: 10 million people have been screened for sight issues across 12 countries. Every day, around the world, thousands of health-care providers visit local communities and deliver specially developed app-based eye tests. This incredible achievement began with a simple ambition: to get tests to those who would otherwise not have access to them. The Rolex Perpetual Planet Initiative has supported Bastawrous in his journey to turn his goal into reality.
