The Global Conductor
Born in Venezuela, Dudamel began his musical journey with El Sistema, Venezuela’s renowned music education programme, where he developed as a violinist and conductor.
Since 2009, he has served as the Music and Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, bringing innovative programming to this prestigious institution. Additionally, Dudamel is Music Director of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, and, in 2026, will become the Music and Artistic Director of the New York Philharmonic continuing a legacy that includes Gustav Mahler, Arturo Toscanini, and Leonard Bernstein. His career highlights include conducting some of the world's leading orchestras - including the Vienna Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic - and regular appearances at legendary opera houses like Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Opéra de Paris, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In 2017 he became the youngest-ever conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert, which is presented by Rolex.
Among numerous accolades are his 2026 Grammy Awards for Best Choral Performance and Best Classical Compendium for Gabriela Ortiz’s “Yanga” and his two 2025 Grammy Awards for a recording of Revolución Diamantina with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, bringing the total to nine Grammy Awards. He has also received the Leonard Bernstein Lifetime Achievement Award, the Konex Foundation Classical Music Award and the Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement. In 2022, in recognition of his outstanding service to the arts, he was named an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government, followed by his election into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences the following year.
Through his leadership roles and the Dudamel Foundation, he continues to champion music education, ensuring that young people worldwide have access to the transformative power of music.
