Restoring the reefs
Ocean champions Titouan Bernicot and Sylvia Earle met in Thailand to celebrate the launch of the latest branch of Coral Gardeners. Having witnessed the team’s dedication to restoring the vibrant reefs, Earle believes it could become a Mission Blue Hope Spot.
The small islands of Koh Kood and Koh Mak in the east of the Gulf of Thailand are filled with rubber trees and coconut palms, in a setting framed by golden sands. Beyond their idyllic shores lie some of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world – their coral reefs. Thousands of species can be found swimming in the crystal-clear waters alongside visiting divers, who come to enjoy the kaleidoscopic marine life. This is what Titouan Bernicot, founder and CEO of Coral Gardeners, is striving to save with his organization’s newest branch in Thailand. It is a milestone in his mission to revive the world’s coral reefs as they face an urgent threat from rising ocean temperatures.
