From college champion to ATP Tour breakthrough

Ben Shelton’s tennis journey began at an early age, inspired by his father, Bryan Shelton, a former professional player.

Shelton played collegiate tennis for the University of Florida, where he became a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) singles champion in 2022. His transition to the ATP Tour was marked by impressive performances in ATP Challenger events, showcasing his readiness to compete at higher levels.

Known for his powerful serve and strong baseline game, it did not take Shelton long to leave his mark. Having turned professional as a 19-year-old in June 2022, within months he had climbed inside the ATP Rankings top 100. Shelton went on an impressive run to reach the semi-finals at the 2023 US Open that enabled him to break into the world’s top 20 and solidify his status as one of the game’s rising stars. Building on his performance at the year’s last Grand Slam® tournament, Shelton won his first ATP Tour title at the Tokyo Open in October 2023, adding a second one with victory in Houston the following April.
