His career, which includes more than 40 titles won on the PGA TOUR®, DP World Tour and PGA TOUR® Champions, is highlighted by his victory at the 1992 Masters Tournament.
A natural talent
Fred Couples began his golfing journey in Seattle, Washington, where his remarkable talent quickly became evident.
Turning professional in 1980, he notched his first PGA TOUR® victory at the 1983 Kemper Open. Couples’ career reached its pinnacle in 1992 when he won his sole major title, claiming the coveted Green Jacket at the Masters Tournament. That triumph was part of a fabulously successful year, during which he became the first American to take the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). Over the course of his career, Couples claimed 15 PGA TOUR® titles, including two at THE PLAYERS Championship (1984 and 1996). He was named PGA TOUR® Player of the Year in 1991 and 1992.
Couples’ contributions to team events are also significant, having represented the United States at The Ryder Cup on five occasions and served as a victorious Presidents Cup™ captain three times.
Couples was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2013, cementing his legacy as one of the game’s greats.
