A game for all courses
Viktor Hovland’s amateur career was filled with accolades, including winning the 2018 U.S. Amateur Championship while he was at Oklahoma State University, an institution renowned for its golf programme. That particular success earned him invitations to several major championships.
He gained widespread attention in 2019 by finishing as the low amateur at both the Masters Tournament and the U.S. Open. Having showcased his ability to compete with the best in the world, he turned professional later that year. In 2020, Hovland made history as the first Norwegian to win a PGA TOUR® event with victory at the Puerto Rico Open and the following year became his country’s first winner on the DP World Tour by triumphing at the BMW International Open. Victory at the 2022 Dubai Desert Classic – part of the prestigious Rolex Series – lifted him to No. 3 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). Some of his most memorable triumphs to date include winning the Memorial Tournament in June 2023 and, later that year, the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship – in consecutive weeks – to claim the season-long FedExCup. Through his success on both sides of the Atlantic, he has established himself as one of the game’s most consistent and exciting young talents.
With his strong driving, accurate iron play and solid putting stroke, Hovland has proven himself capable of taking on any course. His easy-going personality and sense of humour have made him a fan favourite, while his dedication to improving his game has earned the admiration of his fellow professionals.
In 2021, Hovland made history as the first Norwegian golfer to represent Europe at The Ryder Cup. Two years later, he played a leading role in the European victory over the United States in Rome.
