Retief Goosen’s golf journey began in South Africa, having been introduced to the sport at a young age by his father Theo.
Turning professional in 1990, he made steady progress with strong performances on the DP World Tour. He won the Order of Merit in 2001 and 2002 and made his mark on world golf by winning the U.S. Open, one of golf’s four majors, twice in a three-year span (2001–2004). His talent and determination made him one of the few players to have been very competitive in an era of golf dominated by fellow Rolex Testimonee Tiger Woods. Goosen was a mainstay in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking for more than 250 weeks between 2001 and 2007, and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2019.
