Golf’s ultimate team match

Rolex has been the Official Timekeeper of the Presidents Cup™ since 2005 and Global Partner since 2007.

The competition is a biennial match-play contest between teams representing the United States and the rest of the world (except Europe).

A rivalry spanning the globe

Established in 1994 and run by the PGA TOUR®, the Presidents Cup™ has grown into one of professional golf’s most celebrated team events, together with The Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup. A four-day contest comprising foursomes, four-balls and singles matches, it features some of the best players in the world in a format rewarding collective performance above personal glory.

Each side fields 12 players, led by a captain – typically a highly respected figure in the game – who is responsible for choosing pairings and setting the order of play. For both teams, selection is determined by a combination of an automatic points-based qualification system and captain’s picks. The top six players from each side’s respective points list earn automatic berths, and the captain completes the roster with six further selections.

The International team draws its players from across the world, with countries such as Australia, South Korea, Japan, Canada and South Africa regularly represented, lending the event a global character that sets it apart from other team competitions in the sport.

During the 2005, 2007 and 2009 editions, Jack Nicklaus of the United States and South African Gary Player, both Rolex Testimonees, served as team captains. In their roles, these legendary figures revived their great rivalry of the 1960s and 1970s.
