As the penultimate ATP Masters 1000 event of the season, the Rolex Shanghai Masters draws the leading men’s players to one of China’s most populous cities in October each year.
Rolex has been Title Sponsor of the Rolex Shanghai Masters since 2009.
It is the only ATP Masters 1000 event held in Asia, making it a unique and vital occasion on the tennis calendar. Played on fast outdoor hard courts at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena since 2009, the tournament has established itself as one of the most globally significant events on the ATP Tour.
The Rolex Shanghai Masters is one of nine ATP Masters 1000 events on the men’s tour. Together with the Nitto ATP Finals, this tier of tournaments sits just below the four Grand Slam® events for prestige and ranking points.
The tournament is distinguished by its setting at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena. The centre court, with a seating capacity of 15,000, has a retractable roof, inspired by the shape of a magnolia flower. A retractable roof was also added to Stadium Court 2, enabling play in varying conditions. The tournament draws a field of top players competing across 12 days of singles and doubles action.
The Rolex Shanghai Masters has made a substantial contribution to the growth of tennis in Asia, welcoming international audiences and supporting the development of the sport at regional level while maintaining the standards of ATP competition.
The event has consistently attracted the best in the game, with champions including Rolex Testimonees Roger Federer and Jannik Sinner. In each of its first five editions, the tournament was voted ATP Masters 1000 Tournament of the Year by the players, a distinction that reflects both the quality of the event and the enthusiasm of its crowds.
