Crafting an illustrious operatic career
Sir Bryn began singing at an early age, inspired by his rich Welsh heritage.
He studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, winning two prestigious awards: the Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Award and the Gold Medal in 1989. The same year, he won the coveted Lieder Prize in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, an event that brought him international recognition and marked the beginning of his international career.
Sir Bryn made his professional debut in 1990 at the Welsh National Opera, quickly gaining attention for his rich, resonant voice and dramatic interpretations.
His career soared with his performances at major opera houses, including the Royal Opera House, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Vienna State Opera. His repertoire spans a wide range of roles, from Mozart’s Figaro and Verdi’s Falstaff to Wagner’s Wotan, showcasing his versatility and depth as a performer. Sir Bryn has received numerous accolades, including Grammy Awards and his knighthood for his services to music.
In May 2023, Sir Bryn performed at the coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey in London.
