Style of the Day-Date II
The Day-Date II is a highly precious object. A hallmark of its nobility, its Oyster case is produced exclusively in 950 platinum or in 18 ct gold. The bezel can be fluted, smooth or, on the gem-set version, arrayed in the most beautiful of precious stones, while a choice of unique dials in refined colours and textures allows the perfect match between this most exclusive of watches and the character, tastes and requirements of its owner.
Function of the Day-Date II
Presented in 2008, the Day-Date II, with its bigger case, builds on the exclusive heritage of the original Day-Date, the first watch to indicate the day of the week spelt out in full. Worn by world leaders, the Day-Date II’s arc-shaped day display is available in a wide choice of languages. Its ingenious engineering ensures that the day and date change simultaneously and instantaneously at midnight, in keeping with uncompromising Rolex quality standards.
Spirit of the Day-Date II
Rolex watches have long been associated with those who have, over time, guided the destiny of the world. No matter how different their vision, their history or their achievements, many of these exceptional men and women have one thing in common: the Day-Date II.
The Parachrom Hairspring
In a mechanical watch, the oscillator is the guardian
of time. Conventional oscillator hairsprings are made
of ferromagnetic alloys, leaving them vulnerable to magnetic fields, temperature variations and shocks that interfere with their precision. After years of research, Rolex created the blue Parachrom hairspring, which is finer than a human hair.
Crafted from a highly stable paramagnetic alloy
that includes niobium and zirconium, it is insensitive
to magnetic fields and up to 10 times more resistant
to shocks. Historically, the unique blue colour of
the hairspring has been a sign of prestige reserved
for only the most accurate timepieces.
This metal bracelet with semi-circular three piece links was created in 1956 for the launch of the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date. Representing the ultimate in refinement and comfort, and made of carefully selected precious metals, the President bracelet was specifically designed for the exclusive Day-Date.
It is also available on some versions of the Datejust
in precious metals. The President bracelet is fitted
with a concealed Crownclasp.
The Oyster case is guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet). Its middle case is crafted exclusively from a solid block of 950 platinum or 18 ct gold. The fluted case back is hermetically screwed down with a special tool exclusive to Rolex.
Another core component in the watertight structure is the winding crown fitted with the patented Twinlock double waterproofness system, which screws down securely against the case. The sapphire crystal is clamped tight by the bezel. The Oyster case provides the high-precision Rolex movement with optimal protection from water, dust, pressure and shocks.
Certified Swiss Chronometer
The four simple words Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified on a Rolex watch dial mean that the very movement inside the timepiece has endured 15 days and nights of testing by COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres – Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), an independent not-for-profit association. To receive COSC certification as a Swiss chronometer, a watch must demonstrate extreme precision in a variety of positions and temperatures. Rolex is unique in the industry: this is the standard level of quality required of every Rolex wristwatch movement.
