Endless Wonder

Style of the Datejust Lady 31

The 31 mm case gives the Datejust Lady 31 a striking, elegant appearance that is accentuated by the range of different bezels: domed, fluted, graced with brilliants or gem-set with diamonds. The Datejust Lady 31 is available in a variety of materials – 904L steel, 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold as well as 950 platinum – and a wide choice of enchanting dials with refined colours and decorations, each displaying its own unique character.

In mother-of-pearl, with elaborate patterns – including champagne, pink or rhodium floral motifs – or paved with diamonds, the dials take on delicate shades of endlessly shimmering colour.

The Art and Craft
of Rolex Dials

Style of the Datejust Lady 31

Dial creation is nothing less than a true metier d’art. Very few watchmaking companies besides Rolex master all the aspects of dial creation in-house. Mother-of-pearl, gold, meteorite and diamonds are
just some of the fine materials used to ensure the beauty and individual character of each Rolex dial. Some are embellished with subtle sun or sand-blasted finishes, some are beautifully lacquered.

Decors in relief are crafted through machining or electroforming.
The applique hour markers – from gem-set to luminescent, from
Arabic to Roman numerals – are always in 18 ct gold and affixed by hand.
The final touch is the most significant of all: the placing of the applique
Rolex crown.

What a Difference
A Date Makes

Function of the Datejust Lady 31

Influenced by the pioneering Datejust, the date on the Datejust Lady 31 is displayed in a window at 3 o’clock and changes instantaneously at midnight in a few thousandths of a second. The Cyclops lens on the crystal, invented by Rolex in 1953, magnifies the date two and a half times for easy reading.

The First Datejust

Spirit of the Datejust Lady 31

The Datejust, introduced in 1945, was the first wristwatch to display the date through an aperture on the dial. Its unique magnifying Cyclops eye, added several years later, became recognised as a Rolex standard. Admired for its classic design, the Datejust has become an iconic symbol of style.

The technique of a master. The imagination of a genius. And a world tour by the age of 16. All 88 keys and a depth of talent that extends beyond them.

Her elegance is undeniable. But not to be overlooked is her resolve, as she fights to the last point. A trait instilled early on, it carried her to a French Open title. And carries her still today. With poise and style, she is simply stunning – on and off the court.

The Cyclops Lens

Features

The Cyclops lens enhances the date aperture, magnifying the date display by two and half times for easy reading. It is one of the most distinctive Rolex features, and one of the most recognisable.

Oyster bracelet

Features

The Oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and function, aesthetics and technology. First introduced in the late 1930s, this particularly robust and comfortable metal bracelet with its broad, flat three-piece links remains the most universal bracelet in the Oyster collection.

Floral Motifs

Features

The floral motifs on the dark rhodium, champagne
and pink dials are produced using an electroforming technique, a very subtle deposition of material that reproduces the design with extreme precision.

2235 Movement

Features

Calibre 2235 is a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Like all Rolex Perpetual movements,
the 2235 is a certified Swiss chronometer, a designation reserved for high-precision watches that have successfully passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests. Its architecture, in common with all Oyster watch movements, makes it singularly reliable.

Would you like to know more about COSC?

Certified Swiss Chronometer

Features

The four simple words Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified on a Rolex watch dial mean that the very movement inside the timepiece has endured 15 days and nights of testing by COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres – Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), an independent not-for-profit association. To receive COSC certification as a Swiss chronometer, a watch must demonstrate extreme precision in a variety of positions and temperatures. Rolex is unique in the industry: this is the standard level of quality required of every Rolex wristwatch movement.
